Before an important new model goes out, MINI hosts an event to which all the owners of the dealerships worldwide are
invited to take a deep dive into the world of this specific new model.
In this case, it was about the new MINI Countryman.
I was asked to go out with minimal crew in the Basque country around Bilbao (where the event was taking place) and
shoot scenes that reflect the lifestyle of the target audience.
The fun part: all these locations were later on visited by the
guests of the event, as they were taking the new Countryman for a ride.
Having done this for MINI before, we went out by ourselves (me, the DoP, one assistant and a driver), with no one
approving shots or discussing ideas. I was responsible for everything.
The freedom such trust gives you as a filmmaker can be felt in every scene of this film, and it is still one of my favorite
projects until today, both because of the production process and the result we created.
